Cloud, fog, light snow in places
Good morning - it's a mild morning here, but a mix of weather going on early on. It's foggy outside though that will probably clear up. Right where I am (Maruike) it is just cloudy right now, but a few places are reporting light snow this morning. Snow is on the forecast for today and indeed also tomorrow so hopefully we might get more than a sprinkling on the slopes.... will let you know.
The following resort plans to be open for nighta tonight: Ichinose Family
This morning it is just cloudy, though it looks like we have had some sleet/rain earlier as the roads are wet. The forecast has us down for rain turning into sleet and turning into snow by this evening in the town. (Kagura is reporting that light snow us currently falling up on the top area of the resort). Snow is also forecast for tonight, so we are feeling hopeful that we can welcome a new cover of snow in the next few days.
It is currently 3 degrees in Yuzawa with a slight breeze.
We'll update this page later on today with the latest....

Low cloud with sun - changeable.
Judging by the ferocity of the sun light beaming through the Shoji this morning, I actually thought the room was visiting heaven. Things have clouded over a bit now and just as I say that, the sun still struggles to beam through. There was even a spattering of rain on my face as I opened the door to the bar too. So let's just say its changeable today.
Warm temperatures again today but with wind too. Gondola No1 closed today with all the other usual operations acting normally.
Nice sunny day this morning but clouds coming in and a bit of a chill in the air, perhaps signalling the snowfall forecast for tonight.
Nicely groomed slopes and not too soft yet...soft enough to have fun but still fast snow.
Temperatures were mild this morning - 0 degrees at the top at 6AM, but our weather station is measuring -5 at 2050 now, probably some windchill from the 10-15m/s NW winds.
Snow is on the radar for tonight and tomorrow morning...hoping for another surprise.

Sunny, but clouding over
Winter is scheduled to make an encore appearance and this morning's warm temperatures, sunny skies, and southerly breezes will give way to snow from around noon as a low pressure front moves in from the west. It's supposed to snow off and on through the weekend and we need it at this point because the recent good weather has resulted in daily declines in snow depths. The weather folks say that the front will bring mostly below freezing temperatures for the duration. The wind is beginning to pick up now (at 11 a.m.).
Visibility is good this morning and the slopes are mostly uncrowded. Piste conditions are a bit slushy again this morning. The temperature at the top is still hovering around zero, but it's 6º at the base.
Yesterday afternoon turned out to be lovely, warm and sunny, although perhaps better suited to sitting on the terrace in the sun with your favorite beverage in hand than to winter sports. The slopes were mighty slushy.
In upcoming events, the popular annual Kumado Nighter Cup, featuring night ski and snowboard races, will be held this Saturday, the 14th.
In Nozawa this morning the clouds are rolling in and snow is due to fall soon. After the warm weather yesterday the snow condition across the mountain is icy. Base depths are unchanged with 220cm at Yamabiko and 160cm at Uenotaira. Temperature is currently -1C at the summit. The wind is quite strong with a 25km/h North-Westerly blowing. Visibility is varying across the mountain from good to white.
All today and tomorrow good snow should fall on the mountain with some rain in the village. Winds will remain strong and temperatures will drop to at least -10C during the day tomorrow.
All courses are open except Challenge 39, Kurokura and Hachiman.
Yesterday was very mild and it definitely felt like spring had arrived. Last night the rain held off until the early hours of the morning but it was fairly brief and today it is mostly cloudy and still a little mild but some snow showers to village level have begun. Heavier not expected to come till later today and then continue tomorrow. Some further light falls will continue into Thursday. Friday will see another stronger system approach and from the west and although we may get some rain again at first it looks like we may get some good snowfalls to follow.
Light rain falling at the valley at present but the forecast is saying that it should turn to snow from mid afternoon. If the forecast is correct it will snow all day tomorrow as well bringing some much needed snow to Minakami.
It is a very mixed bag of weather this week with more rain forecast on Friday and the early hours of Saturday with snow coming in from midday Saturday through to Sunday. This could change later this week as the forecast has been very changeable recently. Read more ...
