There are lovely blue skies this morning over Yuzawa and once again mild temperatures - it is 2 degrees now with a high of around 6 or 7 on the forecast.

I'll be posting the full report later on this afternoon.

Well, yes it has been another bright day in Yuzawa so far but more of a hazy silvery blue once again for the most part rather than deep blue. And yes, it has been very mild as well - a real spring-like feeling in the air unfortunately. Don't want to say it, but it's true.

Right now it is around 7-8 degrees in Yuzawa and the 4-5 days of generally mild and sunny weather has really started to affect the snow conditions.... where I have been out anyway the last few days. I have noticed a real difference in the snow today compared with just two days ago. It was light and fluffy but today things are a bit more shredded icy in the morning and getting heavier and wet in the afternoon. As you would expect I suppose with a run of mild weather.

Just to give you an idea, there was 320cm of snow (naturally) piled up behind my home at the beginning of the week. Today that is standing at 260cm. So obviously there is still a huge amount of snow!

Being positive though the snow will of course be back. The big question is -- when will wintery-like conditions come back? Looking at the forecast for the week, we may see some light snow overnight into tomorrow but after that it looks like it will be next weekend before we will likely see much fresh snowfall. In between that it will be a mix of clearer conditions, cloud and the possibly dusting of snow especially at higher areas.

The slopes have been pretty busy this weekend at popular runs and resorts. This weekend and next weekend are probably two of the busiest of the peak winter season and so in one way it is good to see crowds - of course, not as good if you are in them waiting for a lift! But it's manageable and not like things were 20 years ago. Expect it to get quieter from now as some people start making their way back home.

So, come on Snow Gods, give us some new topups. Never enough!
