So the snow yesterday was getting deeper and to all those I talked to who were not on the hill I suggest you get out there soon and stop philosophizing over drinks.

The wind should continue today from the west and north west making things colder than they would otherwise seem. The snow should fall and the temperatures should still be from -6/-12.

Still keep an eye out around town as new stores, old stores, and restaurants are opening up.

Skiing around the mountain is slowly opening up more and more but beware of those terrain traps off piste that I wrote about yesterday: trees, snow covered branches, rocks, holes, and so on.

Please note:

We plan to post another report here later on today to clarify the snow depth information that is currently posted on this report. Thanks for your patience.

Late update:

First of all - as regular readers will probably know, it is extremely important to us that we provide the correct information and tell it "like it is" on these pages, and that you can trust what is written here and on SnowJapan in general.

It seems that there has been some confusion over the snow depth numbers that have recently been posted on these pages and we are making a few adjustments to hopefully make things clearer.

From now on please note that for the snow depths data posted in the above table we plan to - unless otherwise noted - post the official numbers for Hirafu. We will also be posting extra comments within the reports to give you an idea of how much snow has fallen down at village level since the last report and overnight. Hopefully that will give readers a good idea of the snow depth on the resort as well as how much new snow has been falling.

Our apologies for any confusion that has been caused by this. Please look forward to lots of in-depth and informative reports here throughout the season and do feel free to send us any feedback at our normal contact email address.

Anyway, on to an update report for today....

Watching the car pass by this afternoon with about 15cm on the roof was a great reminder of how good a day it was.

The morning light didn't last long as the winds picked up in the later afternoon. It was very windy at the top of the King 3 and Hanazono 3 lifts making visibility a bit of an issue from time to time but it was pretty calm towards the bottom. The powder was plentiful and heavier than yesterday but a quiet mountain made up for it with tons of fresh lines. Ski patrol said that the King 4 lift MIGHT open up on the 8th which is a great thing to look forward to.

The streets in the village are pretty slippery in places with fresh snow sitting on top of hard pack or ice and many of the local ski shops have their stocks in now and are ready for business!
