Morning from Niseko.

There is no fresh snowfall to report and it is just a cloudy kind of morning. There is a bit of some wind but not enough to stop lifts from moving, and they all appear to be opening as planned.

On Wednesday I'll be posting my round up of the season so far and month of January. Please nature, bring us some more snow before then!

I'll leave you to take a look at the forecast; and I will of course report the latest tomorrow morning.

----

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Niseko base 6am: -7℃, no snowfall. Moiwa800m: -7.6℃, NNW2m/s, no snowfall, 170cm snowdepth. Annupuri 1150m: -11℃, W10m/s, no snowfall. Hirafu 1250m: mild wind, -13℃, some dusts. Kamui cape lighthouse: E4m/s, 1010hPa, 0.5m waves.

There are no new snowfall nor snowdrift developments. The snowpack is stable and the general avalanche risk is low. Gates opening is undecided, please follow the ski patrol’s decisions.

There are many people stepping into strictly off limits areas to seek fresh tracks. Some entered Haru no taki area through the broadcast tower. Some long term visitors use daypasses in case they get it confiscated. All we can say is, please acknowledge the situation and abide the Niseko Rules.

Today’s system has been set in place in order to reduce the deadly accidents that consecutively occurred 20 years ago. These bitter experiences were the foundation to create the Niseko Rules and they were founded solely for accident prevention, not for tourism promotion. One track under the rope will lead many others to do the same and eventually end up in an accident. There were more than 1000 people that went riding out of bounds yesterday. We’re simply relieved that no accidents were reported.
