Snowfalls continued on and off through much of yesterday but there were also some lengthy periods of sunshine. The skiing was definitely not bad although certainly not epic either but the new snow was most welcome. Most areas got pretty tracked out and there's not been enough new snow to feshen things up for today. In the evening the sky cleared and the temperature started plummeting and reached -18 degrees down in Kutchan. Some areas in the NW of Hokkaido got down to -25. Pretty cold temps for March.
Since last report only a couple of cm's has fallen but there was nothing under the clear skies of last night. Still this morning has dawned completely clear for another bluebird day with incredible views. Looks like they may open the peak today and even if you are not wanting to ski off into some of the bowls it's worth the climb up for the views from the top. You can easily ski back down to the resort next to the route you walk up.
Snow is still expected overnight tonight into tomorrow and there should be enough to cover all tracks and really freshen up the off-piste. The amounts of snow forecast for Thursday have been downgraded a little but we should still see some good accumulations setting us up for a great weekend.

Avalanche Information:
(Information as of this morning)

Niseko Avalanche Info No.77

Almost no snow has fallen overnight. The wind at the peak has shifted north-easterly late at night and has been stagnating around 7m/s. N3m/s at 7am.
The temperature is warmer at the peak, -9℃, visibility is good and most snow surface is covered by surface hoar.
Yesterday’s snow is gradually stabilizing, however the avalanche risk remains high in 40°steep slopes such as in Higashi-one cornice area or Backbowl’s sidewalls.
A thin layer (20-30cm) of fresh snow has blanketed most slopes, but various traps are lurking underneath, such as rugged hard crusts, mostly invisible shrubs, rock-hard ice blocks and other nasty natural features.
Whether you traverse as far as you can, fresh and deep snow cannot be found.
Peak gates are scheduled to open at 9:30, however may change depending on conditions. Please respect the ski patrol’s instructions.
The gates don’t open because it is safe outside, safety is never guaranteed outside the boundaries and it will never be 100% safe in natural environments.
Please acknowledge that safety relies on each individual’s experiences, knowledge, judgments and actions.
