Heavy snow continued through much of yesterday continuing the awesome conditions on the mountain. The winds and snow eased overnight and this morning it is relatively calm and only light snow falling. The top lifts should be operational today giving access to some areas that haven't seen any turns in the last few days. I wouldn't expect the gates accessing the bowls and the Peak would open today with avalanche danger still pretty high. Tomorrow though there is a fair chance for first turns off the Peak. If it does don't forget to pack your snorkel along with your beacon, shovel and probe.
Over the next couple of days a fast moving low pressure system will move through northern Honshu intensifying snowfalls over the region again. The large area of low pressure to the north of Hokkaido is very slowly moving eastward and the northerly winds will not be coming from quite as far from the interior of Siberia. So temperatures this week will become milder with daily highs at the base of the mountain getting up around freezing most days. Snow is expected to continue through much of the outlook but conditions will become a little heavier at lower levels.
