Something of a later report today as I knew there were some technical things going on. (Honest!)

There's not a whole lot to report really, other than the current fine weather conditions... both yesterday and this morning.

Right now as of 10:30am it's a nice mix of blue sky, sunshine and cloud. It was a cold start to the day but temperatures down at base might be getting to just over 0C later on.

Not a whole lot of snow on the forecast, the next expected on Friday and Saturday.

Anyway, I might go and enjoy this weather for a few hours now. Which base to start from. Oh, the dilemma!

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Niseko base: -10℃, no snowfall. Moiwa800m: -6.5℃, WSW1.6m/s, no snowfall. Annupuri1150m: slight breeze and no snowfall. Hirafu1250m: -12℃, SW10m/s, no snowfall. Sea of Japan Kamui cape lighthouse: SSW10m/s, 1026hPa, 0.9m waves.

Calm weather under a high-pressure system. Observations shows that the avalanche risk is low. Gates will open from the morning. Surface hoar due to radiative cooling are forming under 500m elevation. The mountain is pretty much tracked out, beware of bumps and stay in control. Stay away from strictly off-limits areas. The temperature will rise during the day and slabs will form with radiation heat.

There are suggestions to strengthen the enforcement of the Rules. But we believe that it would only lead to further restrictions of the current freedom. People who are beneficiating from the current Niseko Rules system should be careful of what they say.

The Japanese Law prohibits snowmobiles in the Niseko Shakotan Quasi National Park mountain areas. People who violate it are subject to 5 months imprisonment and maximum of ¥500,000 penalties. Better not make light of it.

Have a nice day.
