Snow showers continued on and off through yesterday with heavy falls at times. Later in the day it cleared up and for much of last night it was cloudless with no wind allowing the temperature to drop down to coldest it's been so far this winter, close to -19 degrees. In the early hours of this morning a little cloud moved back in with a dusting of snow and the temp has risen back up to -10. The mountain is reasonably tracked out and we really need some new snow keep the great conditions. Thankfully more snow does appear to be on the way today. It should start getting reasonably heavy after lunch and continue tonight into tomorrow.
At this stage the outlook into next week isn't looking that great. Instead of the normal high pressure over Siberia directing the cold northerlies over us a large region of low pressure is developing. This will mean a more south to southwesterly airstream will predominate with milder than usual temperatures. Some new snow is expected later Thursday into Friday but it will probably start out reasonably wet snow at lower levels. In my experience if we have a mild spell at this time of year it is usually followed up by a good period of cold weather and snowfalls when the weather systems move back into more normal patterns. Here's hoping anyway!
