Yesterday was a great day on the mountain with only light snow falling, little wind and some very deep snow to be found out through some of the gates. It cleared up in the evening making for some great night riding for those still with the stamina to keep going.

From about midnight some more snow started moving through as the warm front approached the region. The winds turned around to the SW early this morning and temperatures have moved up to around freezing at the base of the mountain there has been snow falling but it's a little heavy down low. Cooler air is on the way though as the low pressure system moves further to the east. Tomorrow's top temp in the village is expected to barely get much above -10 degrees!

Currently it is snowing fairly heavily in the resort with strong winds up high which are keeping the top lifts on wind hold. Wind will be a bit of an issue over the next couple of days it seems.
Wednesday and Thursday will become a little milder once more before what appears will be a reasonably prolonged period of sustained cool temps and snowy weather.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko Avalanche Info No.41

Moiwa base 6am: -3℃, 5cm of humid snow overnight.
Coastal data: -3m/s SSW at Benkei cape, 22m/s SW, 1.5m waves and 1003hp at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak wind: 2m/s SE at 6am, predicted to pick up to 30m/s WSW at noon.
This pre-low snowfall is foreseen to form a potential trigger layer under the coming storm.
The avalanche risk is low this morning, however will start to rise from higher altitude as the wind and snow pick up.
Most avalanche related accidents happen during snowstorms. Many weak interfaces form in suddenly developing snowdrifts, it may appear solid and stable but are very easily collapsible with the slightest stimulation.
A skier got lost and finally found in the Backbowl yesterday. This valley is not a regular route to Annupuri ski resort, better not blindly listen to what other people say. Don’t go if you don’t know where you’re going.
Gate 2 (Annupuri), 3 (Hirafu) and 4 (Fujiwara) will be closed today. Gate 6 (Moiwa) will open at 9:30 but may close anytime.
Respect the ski patrol’s decisions.
Don’t duck ropes!
