And who said Santa wasn't real!?

Looks like he delivered us all an epic day for riding deep powder! The winds have settled and it looks as if the lifts will be running over here in Higashiyama, although the top will probably stay closed. It's going to snow, snow, snow and then snow some more today, I think we may have to consider donating some of our snow to those starved resorts around us, it is Christmas after all. And to think there could be a possibility that some people may say there's too much snow! Who would have thought? Lets see what the riders say when they come home tonight...

Avalanche warning states all gates to remain closed but that's just fine for us, there will be plenty of powder to be found on resort today and in those trees and the way it is dumping more than likely we'll have fresh tracks by the time we get back up the hill.

Got out and ride safely and celebrate Christmas Niseko Style!

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu:

Bottom - 180cm

Niseko Village:
Top - 240cm
Bottom - 160cm

Niseko Hanazono:
Top - 305cm
Bottom - 180cm

Annupuri:
Top - 250cm
Bottom - 160cm

Niseko Avalanche info reads:
Niseko base 6am: -7℃, 30cm of crystal snowfall in the past 12 hours. Annupuri peak wind: SW12.6m/s. Coastal data: W16m/s wind at Benkei cape, 6m waves at Kamui cape, 997hPa atmospheric pressure. Westerly 16m/s wind and snow is continuing above 1000m altitude, developing cornices and snowdrifts. The snow in the trees under 700m is good, not so much affected by the wind. 80cm thick surface slab avalanche hazard is still to be considered in leeward slopes with heavy snowdrifts above 800m altitude. Cornices, open steep slopes and knolls are signs of danger. Potential trigger layer is Dec 22nd. All gates are scheduled to be kept closed today. Don’t duck ropes; one track left under the rope could lead many other to do the same, and raise the chances of accidents. Beware of frostbites.

Niseko Now ski lift operation notes:

Lower sections of the lifts are running all the resorts. Gondolas that are affected by wind will probably be running slower than normal. Some lifts may open later in the day in the wind subsides.
