Light snow in the morning yesterday cleared for a couple of hours and some of those ascending the peak for the first time were able to enjoy some great powder turns in sunshine. A little more snow fell through the afternoon but it mostly cleared up overnight. There's not been enough snow to cover yesterdays tracks. With mostly clear skies the temperature dropped to near -15 degrees in Kutchan overnight. This morning it is mostly cloudy with some very light occassional snow.
The snow is expected to get heavier later in the day with some reasonable falls overnight.

Avalanche Information:

Annupuri peak 6am: -13℃. The wind has stagnated around WNW to NW 7m/s. No much new snowfall, no new development of snowdrifts and yesterday’s tracked out snow hasn’t been recovered. The snow-pack conditions haven’t changed much but being more stable compared to yesterdays. There are too many cases of people being lost in the backcountry occurring lately. It is essential you know your route/way back before you are venturing out of the gates. Carelessly following other people’s tracks won’t necessarily take you where you intended to go. There are many dangers other than avalanches to consider in the out of bounds areas. Looking at the snowfall transition, avalanche risk is still considerably high in strictly off-limits, Haru no taki and Yu no sawa area. The temperature in lower altitudes may rise today and if combined with the sunshine affecting the surface snow, it will induce slabs to form and rising stress within the snow-pack that could release its tension at once and result in a large-scale slide at anytime. Avalanche hazard is considerably high, do not duck ropes to seek fresh lines in strictly off limits areas.
All gates are scheduled to open today, peak gates 2 & 3 at 9:30.
