As is usually the case here quite a bit more snow fell than what was predicted. Even though there appeared to be little precipitation in the area on the radar a look out the window confirmed it was dumping for most of the day. Overnight the snow did ease but this morning it's back and has been pretty heavy for the last few hours.
Up on the mountain conditions are rapidly improving. It's still possible to feel the icy base underneath but only just. Currently the winds up high are still strong enough to keep all top lifts closed and most of the gates accessing the bowls, where the really deep stuff will be, are also closed.
Temperatures have become a little milder with the temp at village level around -4 currently. Snowfalls are expected to continue throughout much of the day. Hopefully the winds will ease enough at least tomorrow to get all lifts running again and allow access to the peak. Tomorrow will be awesome if this happens.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko Avalanche Info No.39

Moiwa base 6am: -7℃, slight overnight snowfall.
Coastal data: W13m/s at Benkei cape, SW14m/s, 2.2m waves and 1006hp at Kamui cape.
Ice accretion on the peak anemometer, data not available. Predicted wind at noon at the peak: W15m/s.
Hirafu patrol reported -10℃, SW20m/s at the peak at 7am.
Last night’s moderate wind and snow developed some snowdrifts (soft-slabs). Cornices are soft, 50cm thick and easily collapsible. Extra-caution is required around the cornices of Higashi-One.
The newly deposited snow (up to 80cm) on top of the Jan 21st layer is slowly stabilizing, however avalanche risk will remain high during the morning in leeward slopes around 1100m.
Traversing under cornices of Osawa or skiing the sidewalls of the Backbowl remains dangerous all day.
Possibilities of a 60cm surface slab avalanche, triggered by the pre-Low snowfall (jan 21st) layer, is also to be considered in SE facing steep slopes around 800m.
The snow is gradually turning better.
Peak gates will open at 10:30.
Seek advice from the ski patrol. Always remember that outside the gate is not the resort any more.
