Pretty crazy weather over the last 36 hours with a big storm system passing over the island. Initially as the warm front passed through we had wet snow eventually turning to rain on Saturday night with very strong winds and then yesterday cooler air, as the low passed through, moved back over the region bringing even stronger winds and snow. By late afternoon and overnight we had blizzard conditions. Yesterday few lifts were able to operate due to the strong winds. There's been a lot of drifting snow overnight with heavy loading of lee slopes and avalanche danger today is extreme. All gates will remain closed as a consequence. All upper lifts and the gondolas in Niseko Village and Annupuri are also currently still on wind hold. The strong winds and the snow will ease later today though.
A bit more snow is forecast for tomorrow but then it should fine up on Wednesday and Thursday before another system will hit on Friday with plenty of snow forecast to accompany it. Winter is certainly not over yet up in the North.

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu:
Top - 340
Bottom - 170

Niseko Village:
Top - 340
Bottom - 150

Annupuri:
Top - 345
Bottom - 200

Avalanche Information:
(Information as of this morning)

Niseko Avalanche Info No.97

Moiwa base 6am: -6℃, 20cm of humid wind effected snow.
Coastal data: SW18m/s at Benkei cape, W13m/s, 3.4m waves and 1005hPa at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak: WNW42.5m/s at 19:30, WNW26.6m/s at 6am, predicted to remain around 25m/s at noon.
The Low has now passed, but the pressure gradient remains steep and the wind is forecasted to remain strong during the morning.
The snowdrifts development above 800m is drastic, reached up to 150cm in some spots in Mikaeri, Osawa and the Backbowl.
Extreme avalanche hazard this morning.
60+cm thick slabs are highly probable to slide from layer March 19th, or the weak line within the newly formed slabs. Surface slab slide could stimulate deeper layers and end up in a full depth slide.
The risks will persist a while after the wind has calmed down.
Peak lifts operations will take while as some lifts have been off-cabled by the wind.
All gates will be closed.
Ducking ropes and trying to reach steep slopes would be very dangerous today.
Follow the ski patrol’s instructions.
There are plenty of fresh lines within the boundaries.
