A weak low pressure system moved through last night and there was a reasonable amount of snow and a hell of a lot of wind. The winds have caused a lot of drifting and lee slopes today are quite unstable so most of the top gates have been kept closed. Gate 5 accessing Fujiwara no Sawa bowl on the Hanazono side was open though and I had a couple of very nice, up to thigh deep runs down there this morning. The snow actually cleared this morning and the sun even poked through briefly and winds weren't too strong. I could certainly get used to overnight snow greeted with morning sun but that's not going to happen too much here.
A low up in the Sea of Okhotsk is really going to crank it up over the next couple of days and we'll get very cold temperatures, good amounts of snow and unfortunately quite a lot of wind. Still in a few days time when the wind abates it's going to be awesome up there.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko Avalanche Info No.48

Moiwa base 6am: -8℃, 10cm of snowfall during the night.
Coastal data: NW12m/s at Benkei cape, NNW10m/s, 2.6m waves and 1018hp at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak: WNW16.9m/s at 6am.
Yesterday’s pre-low snowfall, effected by the warm temperature, formed a layer of wet grains underneath the newly formed snowdrifts in areas below 800m.
According to the wind speed transitions, the snowdrifts in areas above 1000m have grown up to 80cm (8pm-3am) and are still very unstable.
The avalanche hazard in leeward slopes above 800m in the Niseko range and surrounding mountains is high.
Gate 2 (Annupuri), 3 (Hirafu) and 4 (Fujiwara) will be closed today. Gate 6 is still undecided.
The slopes that were good yesterday can be dangerous today.
The snow condition is ever changing.
Cornices, knolls and snowdrifts developed due to strong winds should be avoided in the morning today.
The snow in the trees is relatively good.
