It's a bright morning here with another day of sunshine forecast. A bit hazy and overcast, but the sun is out from the start of the day.

Not much of a wind this morning either and so we can expect all of the resort areas to be open as planned, that wind might get a bit stronger later on in the day.

Temperatures probably going to remain quite mild over the next few days with colder conditions coming in late weekend and hopefully bringing with them some fresh snow.

Look out for that Monday and Tuesday.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Niseko base 6am: -1C, no snowfall, overcast. Moiwa 800m: no data. Annupuri 1000m snowpack 340cm. Hirafu 1000m: -4C, calm. Peak data: n/a. Benkei cape: S2m/s, Kamui cape: ENE6m/s, 1015hPa and 0.6m waves.

The atmospheric pressure gradient is small and the weather is calm. A southerly wind is forecasted to pick up as a low-pressure system approaches. The peak hut has been completely buried for the first time in history. This shows that this year’s snowpack and has different patterns from usual years, thick snowdrift layers are present at unexpected areas. Avalanche prediction is difficult. Slopes with cracks should be avoided, as well as steep slopes without cracks should also be avoided. Slopes around 1100m with big cornice development may avalanche from the ground as the cracks starts to open. Spring climax avalanches in Niseko are like landslides, devastating everything in its path and running for a long distance. Better stay away from valley bottoms. Avalanches are natural phenomena but will not be an accident if nobody is involved. Always be cautious and alert in the mountains. Gates will open from the morning. Listen to the ski patrol’s instruction at the gates. Have you switched your beacon on? Niseko community is always concerned about all visitors’ safety.
