After a cold night - down to around -10C - it is going to be warming up fairly quickly this morning with a high of around +2 forecast.

Yesterday was a very fine day in the region weather wise, the downside to that of course being that some snow was melting. But we don't get that many clear days in Niseko in a season, so they are good to experience... as long as there's a fresh delivery of snow coming up soon after!

This morning there is more cloud around, especially over in the direction of Mt Yotei, but blue sky and clearer conditions are forecast again for the day.

So, the forecast. It's still not looking particularly snowy into next week unfortunately. Tomorrow will probably be similar conditions again. Some forecasts are saying some snowfall later Saturday into Sunday, but again it's not looking like anything major.

More of Annupuri opened yesterday and they now have 11 courses available, serviced by the same three lifts - the top Jumbo lift isn't operating yet this season.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Niseko base 6am: -4C, no snowfall. Coastal data: SSE3m/s, 1m waves, 1021hPa. Annupuri 1000m snowdepth cm. Moiwa 800m: 100cm snowdepth, mild SE breeze under 10m/s is stagnating above 800m. No notable development of snowdrifts. Light surface hoar can be observed and will form Dec18-19th layer in the future snowpack. Avalanche from Dec 14th layer is likely to occur south facing slopes under 800m altitude. Ducking ropes is strictly prohibited in Niseko, please read the Niseko Rules map available in multiple languages. Never enter strictly off-limits areas.

Top chair lifts are getting ready for operation soon. The snow in the trees below 1000m is good. Beware of bushes and stumps, they are lurking just below the surface. The resorts are ready to respect the freedom to ski out of bounds, but are also deeply concerned about every user's safety. Please respect the Rules and pay attention to the ski patrol’s advices. The groomers are in excellent condition.
