Another 15 to 20 cm of fresh overnight and through the morning observed on the ground. Apologies if this makes for boring reading every day but hang in there for at least a few more days as the forecast is for more of the same through the early part of next week. I'm sure you don't mind news of snow though...

This truly is turning into one of the best starts of the season in recent memory, lots of happy faces out there at the moment. Rode Strawberry fields, which opened yesterday, this morning and it was waist deep all the way down, and what's more hardly any other tracks at all. The very last of the sassa just poking through here and there, but it should be well covered in the next few days.

It is a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday today, and due to warm up a bit further through until Wednesday but still saying way below 0 at around -4 with not much let up in precipitation. Good times.

Just a bit of interesting data to share with you all. This month so far up until today, Kutchan has already received 194cm of snow. Last year the total for the month of December was 201cm and so with the snowy conditions that are continuing here we can probably expect the number to rise above last years number very soon. Historically there have been a fair few years when that number as been over 300cm, even over 400cm. So let's hope this year may be one of those. Looking back further, it looks like in 1969 a whopping 587cm was recorded in Kutchan! My oh my!

Almost all of the mountain is now open with just a few exceptions and lift slowdowns from time to time due to conditions. Current lift operations at time of writing - as always, subject to change:

Hirafu family pair, Ace Quad, Ace Pair 3 and Hooded pair 3, swinging monkey and holiday pair running. Gondola also running and King 4

Gondola, jumbo quad and Pair 2 and Annupuri Pair 3 running. as well as slowed Jumbo pair 4

Niseko Village:
Banzai, Mori no and Community chair and Gondola running and Wonderland Chair

Hanazono lift 1,2 and 3 running (3 slowed at time of writing)

Avalanche Information:

Niseko base: -6℃, 30cm of new snowfall in the past 12 hours. Coastal data: WNW 13m/s wind and 2.2m wave height. Windspeed at the peak is stagnating around 15m/s NW. Heavy snowfall with moderate wind is persisting above 800m altitude and made snowdrifts to develop up to 150cm in leeward slopes. Dangers of surface slab avalanche of up to 80cm is present in 40°steep slopes under cornices. The bamboos are getting mostly covered and the snow is deep. Beware of hitting trees and losing skis. The gates will take a little more time before opening, please refrain from ducking ropes to access fresh tracks.
