Through yesterday the temperature slowly dropped and the drizzle turned to sleet and then a little snow. Currently there is a complex low pressure system that stretches all the way from Russia to the Aleutian Islands in the Barents Sea. Currently there's still a ridge of low pressure out to our west which is blocking the real cold air from reaching us. Over the next 24 hours though this whole system will move to the NE of Hokkaido and really start to drag cold air down out of the north with plenty of nice, dry snow with it.
This morning is still relatively mild but snow has been falling since about 7am and looks set to continue for much of the rest of the day with temps dropping later in the afternoon. Conditions on the mountain are not great with the surface being a very icy crust and only a little fresh on top. If you're heading up the best runs will be on the groomers. Ski patrol are likely to keep all gates closed today. Snow is forecast throughout the outlook period so conditions should just get better day by day.
