Hello and good morning to you all.

Hmmm... I was hoping to be bringing you happy news of fresh snowfall this morning - but I ain't got any! That's right, 0cm of snow to report since my last report I'm afraid. There was some short-lived snow falling late afternoon yesterday but otherwise there was lots of lovely blue skies to enjoy, so all in all a bit of a curious day weather wise. But there you go, we can't have it our way every single day.

There was a bit of light snow falling a little earlier on this morning giving us a bit of a dusting, but that has now eased off and it's actually quite bright now. Even feels like the sun might break through, and is that a bit of blue sky I see over by Mt Yotei?

It is a very cold start to the day though and right now is -6C here at base.

The forecast still seems to be saying snowfall during today and tomorrow, though I can't help but feel the outlook for snow is looking less promising for the coming week it was yesterday. Right now it looks as if Sunday and Monday may be clear and sunny - always nice but hopefully it won't warm up too much and we'll get some decent snow before then.

Niseko Grand Hirafu are mentioning that Santa will be appearing on their slopes on 24th and 25th December - and if you stop him and talk with him he might give you a present, which is very nice of him. (Just as long as he doesn't forget those skis I asked him for). I am guessing that he might also make appearances on the slopes of the other resort areas as well, and if he has time might go for a tipple down in one of the bars.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Niseko base 6am: -8℃, development of snowdrifts, no snowfall and calm. Coastal data: Kamui cape mild wind, 1009hPa, 1.6m waves.

A north-easterly storm started yesterday 4pm as a small low-pressure system passed, and calmed down overnight as the barometric gradient went low. Although not massive, swowdrifts have developed suddenly in western facing areas above 800m. They are very unstable during this morning, better not stimulate them. According to the weather transition and observations, the general avalanche risk is lowering but still considerable.

All gates are yet to open, meaning out of bounds riding from the resort is still not permitted. Do not cross boundary ropes and enter Annupuri bowl or Hirafu Super Course ridge area. The Backbowl is still in dangerous condition. It may look good, but is actually not. Hard packed slabs have developed and could break & slide with riding stimulation.

Snow has been slow this season. Please adjust your plans accordingly and wisely. Avalanches are natural phenomenon and only become an accident if a person is involved in it. Prudence is the key to prevent tragedies. Snow will come eventually.
