Good morning from Niseko and there's just a dusting of snow to report to you today.

It's feeling milder this morning and the thermometer is confirming that with the temperature just hovering under zero at the moment. Cloud and a bit of blue sky as well appearing at the moment, and the chance of some (wet) snow later in the day. But perhaps the clearer weather will hold on - I think it might.

Tomorrow should be a bit colder but a bit sunnier as well... and actually there's a whole lot of sun forecast for a large part of this week. And unfortunately not a whole lot of snow. Perhaps a bit more before the weekend starts but warmer temperatures are due and with them a chance of rain instead. I'd prefer just the sun if possible!

Anyway, not a lot of fresh to play in this morning but it should be fun all the same. Bring that spring 'hat' with you and keep from being disappointed. Spring has to come sometime and it kind of feels like it's going to be turning on a bit more this week.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Niseko base 6.00am: -5°C, 1cm snow. Moiwa 838m: -4.5°C, SW1.6m/s. Mikaeri 800m: 10cm new snow, snow drift development from east. Annupuri 1150m: -6°C, NW7m/s. Hirafu Ridgeline: -6°C, light winds, trace new snow. Coastal data: Benkei Cape:S3m/s. Kamui Cape S11m/s, 1017hPa, wave 1.0m.

Very little in the way of new snow and general avalanche risk is low. West faces received a bit of drifted snow from a small blizzard from the east and conditions there are good. The number and size of cracks are increasing. Cracks form as the snow pack tension releases on steep slopes, wrinkles below the crack indicate slope stability after the tension has released. However, at the time cracks form there is a possibility that an instantaneous full depth avalanche could occur. On the south face of Annupuri west ridge around 1000m many cracks have formed and slopes below are not wrinkled, indicating the slope is still under tension. Do not ride in this area-> there is a high possibility that a large scale avalanche could occur.

All peak gates are expected to open. Listen to the patrols instructions before going out of bounds. Do not duck any ropes to go out of bounds. Always hoping for no accidents. Have a good day.
