This morning it is not as cold as yesterday, currently around -1C, and there's a 1m/s wind around base, and importantly 10cm or so of fresh snow that has fallen early this morning and light snow is falling. It feels fairly mild today and likely will be into tomorrow as well, but hopefully we will see some into Sunday and then temperatures drop as we move into next week when it's looking good for a decent snowfall.

Today is of course the last day of the cheaper 'off' season lift ticket prices. I think those who have made good use of it until now have done very well, thank you very much.

Nighta operations at Niseko Grand Hirafu and Niseko Village from tomorrow! I know a fair few people who are looking forward to that. I think we can expect things to quickly start getting noticeably busier from now on.

The Niseko Avalanche Institure daily avalanche reports have started for the season today. Many thanks to them for their good work. Please read more on the Niseko Rules here.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko base: -3C, 10cm of crystal snow in the past 6hours. The snowpack seems stable. 115cm snow depth at Annupuri 1000m. The wind has picked up from 4am and is now blowing at WNW15m/s at the coast.
A westerly wind & snow picked up above 1000m from early morning and snowdrifts are developing slowly. Loose snow avalanche are likely to occur in gullies and steep slopes around 800m this morning. Snowdrifts will develop in leeward area, especially just below wind-exposed ridges and the danger of surface slab avalanche will rise during the day. Expected slab thickness 40cm.
Although gate 7 is now open, the overall snow depth in the valley bottoms is still insufficient.
Other gates are will need more time to have them ready to open.
Please read, reread and respect the Niseko Rules. They have been established simply to protect everyone's safety and freedom to ski/ride the off-piste area.
Always keep in mind that most avalanche accidents happen during harsh weather conditions.
