What a day to start the Chinese New Year holidays! Bluebird skies and barely a hint of a breeze. It was a little chilly first thing this morning though with the clear skies with Kutchan recording -20 degrees. It's warmed up now to a balmy -13.
Snow did continue into the early afternoon yesterday before things started to clear up and since last report we've had about 10cm of fresh snow. Not enough overnight though to cover yesterdays tracks. Still the snow up there is in great condition and with the clear skies I'm sure people will be able to scope out some fresh lines, especially off the peak.
With the light winds the snowpack has settled well and avalanche danger is considered low today. Even if you aren't up to skiing the bowls it'd be worth climbing the peak today just for the incredible views.
There's the possibility of a few snow showers through the day but it'll likely remain mostly fine. More snow is forecast though tomorrow and into next week. Enjoy the sun and great visibility whilst it lasts.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko Avalanche Info No.60

Moiwa base 6am: -13℃, clear sky with 10cm of fresh overnight snowfall.
Cold morning due to radiational cooling.
Coastal data: N2m/s at Benkei cape, NNW2m/s, 1.2m waves and 1022hPa at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak wind: WNW15m/s during the night and calmed down to 10m/s or less from 3am; -17℃ and good visibility.
Mostly no drifting of snow.
According to all data and observations, the general avalanche risk is low.
Possibilities of cracks forming in leeward slopes above 800m are rising due to considerable amount of snow deposit on top of Jan 31st layer. Be careful not to fall into cracks.
Tension in deeper layer is rising due to increasing snow accumulation, carefully choose your traversing route in gully terrain in Western face or Eastern ridge (Higashi-One).
Avoid knolls and cornice slopes and ride keeping space in between each other.
The Niseko Rules are set for the sake of all resort users. Selfish interpretation or neglecting them will end up in restricting the present freedom of out of bounds riding in Niseko.
Peak gates are scheduled to open at 9:30.
Listen to the ski patrol’s instructions.
