The fine weather forecast did come through overnight but not before another 20cm of powder was deposited on the slopes through yesterday. Conditions are still incredibly good out there and this morning it is only partly cloudy with the sun visible at times. Winds are still light and avalanche danger is low so it's definitely a great day to head out through the gates and especially up to the peak to access some of the best powder likely to be found anywhere on the planet at the moment.
Some weak areas of low pressure just to the west of Honshu will move NE bringing a bit of instability as they pass through over the next 24 hours. As they move out into the Pacific the area of low pressure is expected to deepen into a significant storm which will direct cold North Westerlie over Hokkaido which will be very strong on Thursday. These stong winds will bring near blizzard conditions to the region. Reasonably heavy snow will start moving in tomorrow and continue right through this week.
So make sure you get out there today and enjoy this calm before the storm.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko Avalanche Info No.28

Moiwa base 6am: -7℃, 20cm of non-wind affected uniform crystal snowfall.
Coastal data: 6m/s NW at Benkei cape, 1.1m waves at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak wind: 5m/s W. Mizuno no sawa knoll wind: NW 5m/s.
The mountain and the ocean are calm as the atmospheric pressure gradient is gentle.
A layer of soft snow has blanketed the whole mountain.
No notable development of snowdrifts or cornices can be observed and all data shows no distinguished signs of avalanche hazard, and no prominent weak layer has been observed.
Peak gates will open at 9:30am. Always use the gates to access the out of bounds areas.
Don’t stop halfway on an open slope or in gully bottoms.
Follow the fall line, traversing sideways under cornices or knolls is not right.
Beware of sudden weather changes. Don’t be following other people’s tracks, you may end up being lost.
Avalanche hazard due to sun effect will start rising during the day in south-east facing steep slopes such as Haru no taki cliff area. Possibilities of a 60cm surface slab avalanche are to be considered in the strictly off-limits areas. Don’t be stepping in there.
Have a nice day.
