Good morning.

The snow we were hoping for yesterday didn't happen and it's a dusting of snowfall really this morning here at base.

It doesn't feel too cold outside and indeed my thermometer is saying -1C at the moment. There's some winds about though and they are affecting top lifts at the start of the day (see below for 8:30am latest on that score).

Also be sure to read the Avalanche Report below too.

There's not much more to report this morning really. I'll let you take a look at the forecast... snow please!

The challenge of the day is to hunt out the best snow conditions out there. Gambaro!

Message from SnowJapan:

The daily reports may appear late tomorrow (Monday 13th) as we need to do some work on the server.

Apologies in advance for any delay.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain base 6.00am: -3°, no new snow. Moiwa 800m: -7°, N8m/s, trace new snow, minor snowdrift development. Annupuri 1150m, -7°, NNW15m/s, no new snow, drifting snow. Hirafu 1250m, -8°, N10m/s, no new snow, drifting snow. Coastal data: Kamui Cape:NNe3m/s, 1008hPa, wave 3.1m.

Although only light snowfall, due to strong northerly wind at higher elevations, drifting snow has caused cornice development overnight. This new cornice growth is unstable and will easily collapse. From observation, general avalanche risk is low. All gates are expected to be open. Please listen to and follow patrols advice.

The safety of out of bounds riders is the No 1 important factor in the daily decisions as to whether gates are open or closed. If the gates are closed you should not ride out of bounds. In Niseko ducking ropes to ride out of bounds will not be ignored.

There have been an increasing number of accidents on the mountains around Niseko. Everyone is free to enter the mountains but the you must carry the responsibility of your own safety, especially guides and tour leaders. In the past many accidents have occurred due to irresponsible decisions by guides and leaders. Don't overestimate your knowledge or experience. Always err on the side of safety. Be careful of sudden weather change, waves are increasing at the coast. Take care.
