Snow was forecast for the day yesterday, and that's what we got.

And overnight too.

So much so, that this morning have 30-40cm of new snow to deal with. You'll see that in the Avalance report (below) 20cm is reported, and as noted in that it seems that there has been more over on the Hirafu side here.

It is another cold morning of course, -7C at the moment here and it probably won't change much throughout the day. Only a slight wind here at base though it does look like stronger winds higher up will prevent the top Wonderland Chair lift at Niseko Village. Other lifts around the mountain seem to be scheduled to operate as planned, perhaps some at reduced speed where necessary.

Light snow and generally cloudy this morning with similar snow on/off conditions due in the coming week.

This weekend is a long weekend in Japan with Monday being a national holiday - the 'Seijin no Hi', or Coming of Age Day.

Those visiting this weekend will certainly not be disappointed. We avoid using hyperbole on these here reports, but when there's totally awesome conditions on the slopes... what else can you say? :)

---

Tomorrow's report will possibly be online later than usual as there's some server work scheduled for the morning.

Avalanche Information:

Niseko base 6am: -11C, 20cm of overnight snowfall and no snowdrift development. Moiwa 800m: WNW12m/s, -16C with moderate snowdrift development. Annupuri peak: WNW15.1m/s, -18.3C. Coastal data: NW13m/s, 1.5m waves and 1018hPa. Annupuri 1000m snowpack: 285cm. Heavier snowfall in Hirafu side of the mountain.

The winter pressure pattern is persisting and intermittent snowfall is continuing. Relatively rapid snowdrifts development in areas above 1000m is forming unstable snow slabs in leeward slopes; according to the wind transition the avalanche risk is rising especially in slopes with slabs of heavy wind-blown snowdrifts. The risks are being measured by evaluating various data and observations of present conditions. The wind speed transition in combination with the snowfall amount and the temperature is an important factor to evaluate the slabs stability in various location of various altitudes.

Peak gates are scheduled to open, time to be determined. Ask the ski patrols some advice before stepping out of the gates. Always keep in mind that outside the gate is not the resort any more. Stay cautious and be conscious of the risks. Open steep slopes and knolls are dangerous at all time. Have a safe day and beware of frostbites. The snow is good again today.
