The latest Niseko Now report can be found here

Another great day of skiing. There wasn't quite as much snow at Rusutsu yesterday as Niseko, but it still made for a fun time (and lots of untracked). Yesterday was a great day for visibility with periods of full sun lighting up the Niseko area for the first time in weeks of real visibility.

It's expected that there will be some NW winds a bit heavier than yesterday. It also looks like another day of mostly cloudy and intermittent snow. The local weather is calling for quite a bit of snow over the next few days. It looks like it could be another week of awesome powder days every day!

Avalanche danger is not considerably high, but always to be considered. Most of the cornices in the Niseko area aren't extremely windloaded so approach them with caution or do not approach them at all. There was a bit of a weak layer that the report refers to (grappel layer from 1/6, but it was bonding fairly decent with a pit some of us dug.

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu / Hanazono:
Top - 335cm
Bottom - 180cm

Niseko Village:
Top - 300cm
Bottom - 190cm

Annupuri:
Top - 300cm
Bottom - 200cm

Niseko Avalanche Report Reads:

Niseko base 6am: -7C;, 15cm of snowfall in the past 12 hours and still falling.
Coastal data: NW15m/s at Benkei cape, 1.5m waves and 1013hPa at Kamui cape.
Annupuri peak wind: NW16.8m/s.
A moderate wind and snowfall has persisted in areas above 800m and a north-westerly wind is forecasted to pick up above 1000m. Looking at the snowfall transition in the past 24 hours, 40cm thick surface slab avalanche risk is raising notably in western areas above 1100m altitude. Potential trigger would be the weak bonding within the newly formed snowdrifts (not necessarily between the old/new layer), which transfers the stimulations throughout the slab and eventually collapses and starts sliding.
Peak gates no2 & 3 will be closed today, please follow the ski patrols' instructions.
The snow condition is ever changing, somewhere that was good the day before can become dangerous today.
Traversing below the cornice areas around coordinate E6F5 is very dangerous. Stay away!

Update:

Looks like the winds have been pretty strong today. Annupuri saw some heavy windloading and the winds aren't expected to die down much tomorrow. Winds could die down tomorrow afternoon/night but we could see some stability on Friday. Be careful of wind loading on SW SE S facing aspects. Have a great day tomorrow and hopefully they will open the gates.
