Yesterday was pretty fun and from what I heard Rusutsu got a bit more and lighter snow than Niseko yesterday. Niseko was still good by any means, but if you get the chance to diversify where you ski today why not take it?! We got some more snow overnight and it looks like cold temps and some snow are still on their way. Right now we are 1.5 meters over our average snowfall, so ski and take advantage.

Stability is still under question as the layers begin to settle. I would be aware before doing any backcountry skiing that there are some areas (especially north facing) with stability problems. If you do notice any crowns or major avalanche activity please report it to us as it would help ensure safety for others.

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu / Hanazono:
Top - 395cm
Bottom - 220cm

Niseko Village:
Top - 410cm
Bottom - 240cm

Annupuri:
Top - 435cm
Bottom - 230cm

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Moiwa base 6am: -9C, 20cm of broken snow crystals in the last 12 hours. 40cm in the last 24 hours.
Benkei Cape NW 14m/s, Kamui Cape wave 2.4m, pressure 1013 hpa, At 800m elevation, 40cm snowdrift development of crushed snow crystals.
Snowfall: A 15m/s westerly wind, with gusts to 20m/s, accompanied by intermittent snow has continued. Snow drift development has been inconsistent and unstable.
Snow Pit Data: 9th , 7th, 6th, 4th Feb, 22 Jan layers are visible. Above the 4th Feb layer is unstable due to temperature gradient and a fracture could easily occur. Above the 9th Feb layer the drifted snow will also fracture easily.
Hazard Evaluation: Leeward slopes at 800m elevation and 700m southward facing slopes the risk the avalanche risk continues to be HIGH. Be aware cornice slopes, knolls could easily slide today, do not enter. Because of the wind driven snow, even in the trees the snow is slow. Do not stand or wait in the creek bottoms, that is where the avalanche path will run. Visibility is expected to be poor until around noon.
Gates: Peak gates are expected to closed today. Please respect the ski patrols decision.
Have a safe day
