Red in the morning, sailors take warning
But that sight, is the skier's delight

Or something like that. That's what I saw earlier this morning, with a red sunrise just peeking out under some black clouds, especially toward the ocean. And, sure enough, it's starting to snow right now in Myoko.

The winds offshore are coming from the southwest right now, but as those swing around to the west and north we're likely to see some good snow today, possibly even some heavy snow.

We'll need all the additional we can get, as the weekend forecast now has the freezing line moving up as high as 3150 meters, with heavy rains. Combine that with winds, and our already-shallow snowpack could take a beating (I know, visitors from abroad, this is great compared to home but it hasn't been enough to make the backcountry really fun/safe, or to ensure that we can ski until early April! We're warm and maritime here, and that snowpack almost disappears before your eyes when we get strong warm winds).

Only Ikenotaira and Kyukamura are reporting so far this morning; Ikenotaira's -3° is more representative than the colder temperatures we had yesterday, and which are still in the list below.
