Welcome to the March temperature roller coaster ride. The snow faded away by late morning yesterday and it was cloudy all afternoon. The slopes were crowded all day and by evening the snow was packed down pretty hard, but not yet icy. Fog rolled in toward evening, accompanied by a few flakes of snow, but there was no new accumulation overnight, when the temperature fell to -3º.

It's sunny this morning and already 4º, today's forecast high, at the base at around 9 a.m. (thanks to winds out of the south again). It looks like it's going to gradually cloud over, but visibility is excellent as of now. Wind conditions are calm. It's crowded again this morning so look forward to hard packed slopes until the warm temperatures soften the snow up later.

Speaking of soft pistes, Yahoo is forecasting more sun and a high of 7º tomorrow. Lower temperatures are supposed to return, with some snow, on Tuesday and more snow is forecast on Friday and Saturday.

The local roads are dry and traffic is moving smoothly on Route 18.

Akakan is hosting the All Kansai Intercollegiate Ski Games until the 11th and the Champion B course is closed to the public during the races.

Official resort snow depths:

Suginohara:
100cm
Ikenotaira:
130cm
Akakan:
185cm (at top)
Akakura Onsen:
150cm
Madarao:
150cm
Seki Onsen:
