Talk about an underwhelming snowfall: maybe 70cm, the TV was saying. Most outside reports were also for the heaviest snow on Monday night. We got 8cm. Joetsu City, on the coast, really got hit; one informal report was that the beach got the 70cm we were supposed to get...

There was more snow up high through the day yesterday (Akakan, for example, is reporting an additional 20, which is what people climbing above the area yesterday noted, while lower Akakura Onsen added no new snow to its total).

All lifts seem to be running, but the bowls on the south side of Lotte Arai (the Mt. Okenashi side) have been closed the past several days. Something to keep in mind if you plan to go out for avalanche-controlled sidecountry.
