It's another sunny day in Myoko! Unbelievable! Wonderful! OK, we are excited; it's nice to be outside, nice to get a little solar heat to defrost snow cars and clear off that clinging snow on the roofs. It did get a little cloudy toward the end of the day yesterday, but the stars were shining at night.

And it's staying cold , despite the warmth of the sun; Madarao even reported -10C this morning, while the car dash (the trustiest of all, believe me) said -8C at the Akakan base level. So good snow, and lots of sun.

There was a lot of avalanche activity seen yesterday, with crown lines appearing all over the east faces of Maeyama and up onto Mt. Myoko as well. Witnesses said there was a lot of cracking/slab activity going on, although luckily no one appears to have been caught up any of it. A little restraint is probably a good idea for the near future; the sun may well help settle the snow, provided there isn't some weak layer hanging around under there that will trigger more slides as things heat up.
