It is snowing nice big fluffy flakes this morning in Hakuba. The snow started early this morning so a bit later start that we had hoped for but we have about 2-3cms accumulated already. It is expected to snow all day today and on and off through this week so that is very welcome news. There's just a slight wind and it's not too cold out there this morning. Fine, sunny weather is all well and good, but what we really want is deep snow!

Conditions on the hill are mostly groomed and packed powder, icy big moguls on the steeper runs and crud on the ungroomed terrain. There are quite a few little rocks and shrubs still poking through especially on lower slopes so be careful as the new snow will just barely cover those up. With any luck the new snow will be enough to cover all the bushes and rocks and increase the base all over the resorts.

Things on the hill should be a little less crowded today as the weekend holiday masses start to return back to the cities, so with more snow in the forecast and less people this equates to some happy skiers and riders.

Happy riding in 2012 everyone!
