Hakuba is presently sitting under cloudy skies and a few snowflakes are falling. Approximately 10-12 cm of new snow in the valley overnight which will definitely make the crusty conditions out there a little softer underfoot.

You can expect powder, chopped powder and crud as well as smooth groomers out there today on the hill. Quite cold atop the Hakuba peaks today with a -14 C on Happo, this is good though as the rain we had really penetrated the snowpack, but the re-freezing has firmed things up a bit.

The forecast is calling for light snow throughout the day today, then clearing overnight.

Current Avalanche Bulletin:

Alpine: Considerable
Tree Line: Moderate
Below Tree Line: Moderate

The recent rain crust of two days ago has now been buried under fresh snow of approximately 30-40cm depending on altitude and aspect, this layer seems to be boning well with the new snow and recent tests in the field have shown no major results or layers to be overly concerned about. High winds though have created some good wind slabs and wind packed snow, and due caution should be taken on wind loaded slopes especially around cornices. Solar radiated slopes will also be more unstable and one might expect to see sluffing/sliding off steeper alpine terrain. Take care around rocks and points of tension (convex rolls and unsupported slopes).
