Another good morning in the Hakuba valley today with blue skies, light winds and cool temperatures and . Last nights full moon lit up the whole valley and the view of the mountains was impressive. This cool, clear night has made sure that the ice on the southern slopes stays icy and the soft snow on the northern slopes stays soft. The courses are hard pack groom on the southern runs and soft to medium pack groomed on the northern runs. The sun was hot yesterday and will be the same today so do wear a cap, sun glasses and put on some sun screen. Enjoy the great weather and fine views today. Expect the skies to cloud over Saturday morning and begin to snow through the weekend.

Backcountry Travel Advisory as at Feb 22th:

Strong winds yesterday have created thick wind slabs on South and South East aspects that may be unstable in steep convexing terrain. Continued solar radiation on East and South aspects will continue to melt the surface snow through the day and result in rapid settlement today and increased pressure on these recent wind slabs. Todays solar radiation will also create an even harder melt / freeze crust that will pose instability with the fore casted new snow over the week end. Take due care around exposed rocks and sparse trees on solar aspects and in steep lee slopes. The recent snow is very variable in depth due to the wind and solar radiation so be aware of this when entering into slopes and stay away from shallow snow on steep entrances in to chutes and open slopes.

Avalanche Danger Scale:

Below Tree Line: Low

Tree Line: Moderate

Alpine: Considerable
