After not being able to see much for most of yesterday, we can see it all this morning.

(Almost) clear blue skies and that beautiful mountain backdrop on full show.

No fresh snow to report but it's a cold morning (down to minus 11 overnight) and conditions should be keeping good.

Not sure how long the clear skies will last because we're expecting cloud later on and more snowfall by tomorrow.

For the moment though it's a great early morning if you can make it out.

Those in Japan will have seen on the news about a numnber of backcountry incidents over the last week or so in places around Nagano and Niigata. My colleague over on the Myoko Now report said it well yesterday, I hope he doesn't mind me posting it here...

If you're off the course in the trees, you might as well be five kilometers back in the mountains - you're not safer just because you're close to the resort. If you don't have the right gear (beacon, shovel, probe, water, food, some extra clothes, etc.), you really shouldn't be out there. "Your own responsibility" is only good until you're in trouble, as a wise local man said to me once—once you're hurt or lost or stuck out there, you'll be responsible in the end, but you'll be dependent on others in the meantime.

Have fun, take care.
