This morning once again the rosy fingers were playing among the peaks at dawn. Later the sky scattered clouds with no evidence of significant winds aloft. Yesterday above the Tsuga Ike Lift Company terrain inconsistant light snow flurries were observed with very light winds at ridge crest (1,950'ish m a.s.l.). The sky was obscured up there most of the day. Generally there was no new snow in the past 24 hours of any significance. The daily warming did not amount to much. The visibility should be excellent today.

The Hira Kawa Snow Study Plot (830m a.s.l.) the 0630 hr. reading is:
Sky: Scattered clouds
Temperature: Present: -9.5 C
Maximum: -1 C
Minimum: --10 C
Wind: Very light from the west
Precipitation: Nil
Barometer and trend: 928 hPa and steady
Height of new snow in 24 hours (HN24): 0 cm
Total depth of snowpack (HS): 70 cm
Foot penetration: 16 cm
Surface: facets, to size 3 mm
Density of surface snow: 110 kilograms per cubic meter

Above Tree Line: Considerable

At Tree Line: Moderate

Below Tree Line: Moderate

N.B. The hazard may increase with daytime warming.

Travel Advisory:
Yesterday with limited visibility in the area above the Tsuga Ike Lift Company terrain (Hiyodori Mine south side specifically) the snow was cracking between ski tracks (up-hill track) and was shearing easily down about 30 cm on the melt-freeze crust. There was no feeling of threat in the moderate terrain skied but the confidence level on more aggressive terrain would have been low. Size 2 natural avalanches were observed in an open, steep, southerly aspect near the Nori Kura Lift Company terrain.

Another professional avalanche observer crew on the Goryu Lift Company terrain and above reports low confidence in the snow pack stability on northerly aspects with slabbing in the recent storm snow at ridge crest especially. Some natural activity was observed. The stability is felt to be improving rapidly but it is still in the transitional stage. There were large grains observed associated with the shears on both southerly and northerly aspects.

This morning the surface snow in the Hira Kawa Station Snow Study Plot was definitely recrystallized but generally settling well.

Yesterday the uphill ski penetration was 20 to 30 cm on the southerly aspects and more on the northerly. Good skiing was reported on both aspects.

Daytime warming will probably raise the level of the hazard.
