Where is that snow they keep promising? We have maybe received 3 cm of new snow at the top of the resorts, but no more. Oh well, we'll keep our fingers crossed! We have broken skies in the valley and it looks like the tops are clouded in with poor visibility. Winds are moderate from the North West and temps are around -1 deg.C in the Valley and -5 deg.C at the top of the resorts.

On Happo One over at the Nakiyama area they are shooting a movie, a mogul shoot, there are supposed to be about 3,000 extras there acting as fans,,,hmmm exciting.?

Our trained avalanche forecaster and weather guru is still out and his absence has been extended to the 18th of March (Sorry, now the 20th), so the in-depth weather observations from Hirakawa Study Plot are put on hold til then.

Todays's Avalanche Hazard follows....play safe out there powderhounds!

Above tree line: Considerable

Tree line: moderate

Below tree line: Low

N.B. As was noted previously: these hazard levels will likely increase with the daytime warming

Travel Advisory:

With today's sun affected slopes there may be south facing areas of failure once the snow gets melting and more moisture laden. Also caution should be taken in lee side wind loaded slopes where a deep wind packed snowpack is present. Areas of tension around rocks and convex rolls should also be avoided. Gullies and steeper aspects could still be potential areas of danger as there still is quite a bit of fresh snow sitting atop some crust layers.
