Bluebird skies here in Hakuba this morning, although there is snow in the forecast for later in the day. Temperatures are staying cool around the 1 deg.C mark in the Valley and -3 deg.C above 1500 m a.s.l. and expected to stay that way throughout most of the day. Winds are out of the N.W. and light in the Valley to moderate up above 1500 m a.s.l. . Some of the resorts are now closed after April 1st, but Happo, Goryu, Hakuba 47 and Tsugaike are still open and running lift to get you up high where the good snow is!

For all you Tele-heads, the 7th Annual Tele-kobu (Telemark Mogul) race, is on at the Kurobishi area on Happo. The race is free to enter, starts at 10AM today, (but you can come by anytime until 2PM) and the race is to see who can do the most mogul runs during the 4 hr event. Come on by and pound yourself for a few!

Backcountry Travel Advisory:

Poor visibility today will probably impede travel in the backcountry today. Colder temperatures should have solidified/refrozen the wet/slushy snowpack of yesterday. Expect some blowing snow and cooler temperatures atop the peaks today. As like yesterday spring is a good time to see glide cracks in the snow where a deep fracture will open up in areas of tension. You don't want to end up in one of those. Other hazards to look out for are rock fall from cliff faces and subsequent debris on top of the snow.
