It has been absolutely freezing around here for the last several days, but all that is about to change as a new weather system begins to push it's way through the area later this evening.

At 5 o'clock this morning it was a hefty -12. Thanks to a strengthening southerly wind, things have warmed up to around -1 in less than five hours. The storm coming through looks like it will walk the thin line between mountains of powder and a gritty wintry mix. Here's hoping to the former, but the current forecast calls for a snowy start, then a changeover to snow, rain, and sleet as the front makes its way across Central Hokkaido. The moisture content in the air is surprisingly high, so hopefully we will see some big accumulations from this, especially on the upper half of the mountain, which should see consistent snow fall throughout the storm.

The top of the mountain is currently at 60cm.

The bottom sits at 30cm.

Snowmaking crews have been working during this coldsnap to even out rough areas, fill in thin spots, and make your Furano experience as enjoyable as possible. Tomorrow looks like it's going to get wild, so today, with it's beautiful skies and relatively warm temperatures, will certainly be the day to be out on the mountain.
