Day Two of Ski Season in Furano!

It's a holiday all over Japan today, and many people are just getting their skis and snowboards out for the first time. Today is a great chance to dust off that gear and grab some of that light and fluffy powder Furano is so famous for that dumped last night. We had at least 10cm overnight, and even more in some places. As cold as it was last night, things are warming up nicely for the afternoon. Even though temperatures are still below freezing, the sun is doing its best to take the edge off of early Winter's chill. Snow is sliding off roofs as heaters are turned on full blast and people snuggle into their kotatsu.

However, all this winter can't last forever. It looks like a system moving through the area late tonight will start out as snow due to all the cold air in place over Central Hokkaido, and then transition to a mainly rain event until tomorrow evening when the front passes through and things change over to some big, fluffy flakes before tapering off. It's a delicate line to walk between autumn and winter, so we'll keep you posted here at Snow Japan as things unfold.

After that, all eyes are on Friday now, where forecast heavy snows could bring us some big accumulations.
