Sunny, beautiful, perfect.

That's how I'd describe conditions today in Furano. I'd say there was 1+ cm of snow last night, but I can't write that, so we'll call it 3 cm with the snow that fell yesterday afternoon.

Today is going to be a great day for skiing. Sunny, temps below freezing, all should be good.

Tomorrow, on the other hand, may get up to +5 C, with snow forecast to fall throught the day. According to my handy chart here, 0 C appears to be the freezing point of water, so my deduction would mean that the "snow" will actually be r@!n. Hopefully, that won't make the snow too icy when it re-freezes.

Last night, there was a bon fire and fireworks display in the Kitanomine parking lot. All part of official opening of the "Kan Kan Village". There are now five snow domes for you to experience dinner or a beer. The photo op alone is worth it.

Tonight is the New Year's Festival in Furano at the New Furano Hotel from 6:30-8:30. There will be traditional dancing & music, tea ceremony, taiko, and the famous Furano Belly Button dance. Plus you can sample various traditional Japanese foods and some local treats.

Think Snow. Think Powder. Think cold temps.
