Powder, Hard Spots on Certain Crowded Runs |

We skied Nakazato in the afternoon and night with conditions altering between heavy snowfall, clouds and clearing, and mist after dark with snowfall returning. Except for occassional icy spots, conditions were good, with knee deep powder on several of the more challenging mogul runs.
Another review mentions the difficulty of the "one" night run, but when we were there a longer route avoiding difficult slopes was open and seemed within the grasp of most beginners. Actually, we found this resort surprisingly pleasant for night skiing, though we were not out to cover a lot of ground. It was less crowded and the main lighted route could be split in several places, the most exciting at a wide, curving, fairly steep mogul run that had some outrageously deep spots of snow.
There is something charming about this place, and I recommend it as a warmup stop if you're planning several days at different resorts in/around Yuzawa. |

I have a certain affection for this place. Good clean fun here, and although you wont be challenged too much, it still offers enough to keep you interested all day. The half-pipe is tiny, but great for beginning freestylers. The kickers totally suck though - build your own.
Going on weekdays though (weekends can get a little crowded) you might find some of the lifts out-of-operation. |

This is by no means the best place in Yuzawa town. Naeba, GALA, Kagura, Kandatsu, Iwappara all beat it it in terms of size, courses, snow. But having said that I still have a soft spot for this small resort. Probably becoz it is where I learnt where to ski way back 7 years ago. Since then I have become an above-average skier and recently also taken up snowboarding, which I am really enjoying this season.
Nakazato is good for beginners and those looking for long twisting challenging runs will be disappointed (you should stay to the right hand side of the hill as you look at it).
The resort has it's own little station on the Joetsu local line (about 10 minutes before the Echigo Yuzawa station), so it's really convenient to get to. |

Another resort in Yuzawa town, this one is just a bit further on than Iwappara and Yuzawa Park (it has it's own little station on the Joetsu local line), and about 10 minutes from the IC.
Bigger than Yuzawa Park, although still not too big - it's kind of stretched into 3 small parts. By far the most interesting is the right hand side that has a few fairly challenging, but short, intermediate runs.
A big more difficult than Park, but still suitable for families. |

This resort has good beginner and intermediate runs. There is one which is wide and long. Very enjoyable for beginners. However, it has only one night ski run which I feel is rather difficult for a beginner. Other than this, I would recommend this resort. |
