Echigo Yuzawa has a 800+ year tradition of being a popular onsen hot
spring resort with many people visiting the town to soak in the hot
springs around town throughout the year. There are a number of
public onsen as well as countless onsen in the hotels and ryokan of the
town.

Yama-no-yu
This is a historic onsen hot-spring bath, famous for being used by
Yasunari Kawabata. The bath uses it's own natural volcanic spring-water
source. |

Komako-no-yu
‘Komako’ is the name of the heroine of the novel ‘Snow Country’ by
Yasunari Kawabata. There is an onsen spa named after this character,
located near the Yuzawa high street.

Komakusa-no-yu
‘Yuzawa Kogen’ is located on the Yuzawa high street, only a 5 minute
walk from the train station. The resort also has an onsen spa at the
foot of the resort, to sooth tired muscles after a day on the ski slopes
or trekking trails. |

Kaido-no-yu
Kaidou-no-yu is the name of a onsen hot-spring bath in Mitsumata,
just 10minutes from Yuzawa by car. Tthe spa boasts a beautiful
‘rotemburo’ heated outdoor bath. |

Shukuba-no-yu
Another popular spa is the shukuba hot spring. This is near Tashiro
ski resort, 20 minutes from Yuzawa by car on highway 17. |

Iwa-no-yu
Iwa-no-yuu is the name of an onsen spa located close by
Yuzawa fishing park -- this spa is great for bathing after a
relaxing days fishing!

Each of the seasons in Yuzawa is well defined. The sakura trees
and fresh green of spring, the relatively cool summers (compared to the
city!) and the comfortable temperatures and stunning scenery of autumn.
People come to Yuzawa for sightseeing, hiking, mountain climbing,
fishing, canoeing, swimming and more.
