What is Shiga Kogen?

Shiga Kogen is situated in the heart of the Johshinetsu Kogen National Park of Nagano Prefecture and is the largest ski and snowboard resort in Japan, offering 21 interlinked resorts all on one lift ticket!  Shiga covers a huge area and offers a great diversity of natural terrain - to actually ski or snowboard all the available runs would take you days!

Snow conditions and quality are often superb and Shiga Kogen also has one of the longest seasons in Japan - usually from mid December until early May. The extensive lift network enables skiers and snowboarders to easily move around from one resort to the next. A shuttle bus system running non-stop between resorts can also be used for getting between the resorts in the area.  Yakebitaiyama is the most modern of all the resorts at Shiga and offers customers, fantastic facilities, fast lifts and a great variety of terrain.

21 ski areas > 1 lift pass!

Surrounded by some 2,000m high mountains, Shiga Kogen consists of 21 various ski areas - see below for the names of the individual areas.  Abundant snow fall, fine powder snow, the latest facilities including a speedy lift operation system and its big scale have made Shiga Kogen one of the worlds top ranked ski resorts.

Each ski area with its fantastic runs and terrains linked by lifts, attracts skiers who can enjoy the challenge of skiing continuously on the wide variety of runs on offer.  Ski here today, and ski there tomorrow -- to try all of the lifts in every area it would takes 2 or 3 days. The altitude and the installation of efficient snow making systems ensure that Shiga Kogen boasts a long ski season from late November till early May.  (Please note that usually from around early April, spring operations come into effect with less ski lifts operating - check the Shiga Kogen Now reports for daily updates on conditions and operations).
