New for the 2004/2005 Season - SnowJapan.Com Journals!
Keep track on your season and your friend's season with the new SnowJapan.Com online Journal Diary and Member pages.

We introduced Journals to the site two seasons ago, but we have just given that section of the site a major overhaul for the 2004/5 season.  So.... what's new?  The best way to find out is to go over to the new Journals section and check it all out!

Summary of new features:

  You can now post 2 photos with each of your journals;
  There is now an increased limit of 50 photos per user (up to 20 displayed on the Members page);
  You can now post comments on other user's Journals (and on your own as well if you want to.)  You can also edit those comments (and delete them if they are comments posted by another user on your page);
  An email will be sent to your registered email address to notify you whenever another user adds comments to one of your Journals;
  A new Search functionality allows you to search for any Journals that have been posted about a particular Japanese Resort;
  The Journals are now archived by month;
  The section has been given a complete design overhaul and a completely new interface making it easier to read, find, post and edit Journals.
  In addition some changes have also been made to Member pages - they've seen a facelift making them look better!

Viewing Journals
The main Journals page on SnowJapan.Com can be found here.

The latest 15 Journals to be posted on the site are listed on that page, sorted by "Posted Date".  Archived Journals - complete listings of Journals posted in the current month and all months previously - can be accessed via the Monthly Archive links at the bottom of the page.

On each Journal listing, various information is posted above and below the actual Journal.  Below is a simple explanation of each part:

ABOVE THE JOURNAL:
POSTED BY: This indicates the username of the Member who wrote the Journal.  If you click on the username, you will be taken to their Members page.
POSTED DATE: This indicates the date and time when the Journal was posted on SnowJapan.Com by the author.
RESORT: This indicates the visited Resort.  If this is not visible, it means that no Resort was specified by the author when creating the Journal.
VISITED ON: This indicates the date when the author of the Journal visited the Resort.  If this is not visible, it means that no "Visited On" date was specified by the author when creating the Journal.
BELOW THE JOURNAL:
Click on this link and you will be taken to the Member page of the person who wrote the Journal.
Click on this link to add comments to the Journal.  You will need to be registered and logged in to Insider to view and/or add any comments.  Please note that you will be able to edit your comments at a later date.
VIEW COMMENTS
(Currently 3)
If this link is visible, it means that other comments have been added to the Journal.  (The number of additional comments is indicated.)  Click on the link to view the Journal and associated comments.  You will need to be registered and logged in to Insider to view and/or add any comments.  If no other comments have been added to a Journal, this link will not appear.
If this icon is visible, it means that the Journal contains photos.

Journals are also posted on the Member pages.  So if you are interested in viewing all of the Journals posted by a particular Member, just click on the VIEW MEMBERS PAGE button link by any of their Journal listings and you will be able to see all of their Journals.  (You can also view Members Pages via the main Insider section or from any of the other links to Member Pages on the site.)

SORTING OF JOURNALS ON MEMBER PAGES:
Please note that Journals on Member pages are sorted by VISITED DATE rather than POSTED DATE.  (If a VISITED DATE has not been specified on a Journal, then for the purposes of sorting the POSTED DATE will be be used as the VISITED DATE.)

Searching Journals
You can search for any Journals posted for a particular resort in Japan.  You will see 2 drop down menus labeled PREFECTURE and RESORT.

  Firstly, select a Prefecture, and all the Resorts in that Prefecture should appear in the second dropdown menu.
  Choose a resort from the second drop down menu.
  Click on SEARCH

All of the Journals on the site posted about the Resort you chose will then appear on the page.

(If you encounter any problems with the drop down menus, click RESET and they should fix themselves.)

Adding new Journals
You can add a new Journal from the places noted below:
a) on the main Journals page;
b) the ADD NEW JOURNAL image link on your member page;
c) the link on your Insider Control Panel page;
d) the link on the right hand side of your Insider pages.

(Please note that you need to be registered, logged into Insider and have your Member page online in order to be able to post Journals.  Click here for more info on registering).

Please note that if you do not specify a date or a resort, that information will not appear on your Journal listings and also, the Journal will be sorted on your Member page as if the Visited date were the same as the date you posted the Journal on.

Editing your own Journals
You can edit and/or delete your Journals by clicking on the EDIT JOURNAL links on the right hand side menus present on all of your Insider pages.

Adding comments to Journals
You can now also add comments to other Member's Journals.  On the Journals, look out for the this link:

Click on that and type away!  Please note that you can edit any comments that you make, but you cannot delete your comments.  (The author of the original Journal can both edit and delete your comments).

Editing comments on your Journals
You can edit and delete any of the comments that other users have posted on your own Journals.  In order to do this, go to your Members page and click on the VIEW COMMENTS link for a particular Journal entry.  From the next page you will be able to edit and/or delete comments.
