Searches are based on the listings on our main Places to Stay section. For general listings please refer to that section.
Prefecture > Ski Resort
If you select a 'Prefecture', all of the resorts that have accommodation close-by will automatically appear in the 'Ski Resorts' field directly below it. You can then choose a resort if you wish (not required).
Keywords
If you wish to Search on keywords, click on the ? icon. You can choose one or multiple keywords. Click on the 'Add' button to add them to your search. To delete keywords from your Search, click on the icon again and the uncheck the keyword(s) (and once again click on the 'Add' button to register your request).
Search Results & Maps
The results of a Search will be shown on a map as well as a list. If a 'Town' or 'Prefecture' is chosen in the Search, the resulting map will be zoomed in on that town area. If no 'Town' or 'Prefecture' is chosen, the results will be displayed on a wider map of Japan. Zoom in to see more map details and individual icons. More help about our maps here.
Recommendations
We recommend you initially search on a one or two fields - the more fields you search on at the same time, the less results you will bring up. Also note that the Search is based on every (and) selection you make - for example, if you choose a Town Name and also a Prefecture that do not match (eg. and Prefecture = Nagano and Town = Yuzawa), you will bring up no results (as Yuzawa is not in Nagano). If you are not sure, choose only one and refine a search from there. For more general information visit our Resorts and Town Guides sections.
Town Names
Some town names are less well-known than the general area where they are located. To make the Places to Stay Search easier to use, for the 'Town name' we have in the below cases used the more well-known general resort area names. For reference, in the following cases they are different than the actual town names:

Many listings in the Niseko (Hokkaido) area are in Kutchan town.
- Appi Kogen (Iwate) is in Hachimantai city.
- Shiga Kogen (Nagano) is in Yamanouchi town.
- Sugadaira (Nagano) is in Ueda city.
- Tomamu (Hokkaido) is in Shimukappu village.
- Zao Onsen (Yamagata) is in Yamagata city.
