With a
population of under 10,000 people it is a fairly small village
area but in winter Hakuba becomes one of the main winter sports
destinations of Japan and home to a number of major ski
resorts. Hakuba is also popular with people venturing beyond
the resorts and seeking backcountry adventures in the
surrounding areas.
Recent years
has seen increased interest from overseas and Hakuba is fast
gaining a name for itself with skiers and snowboarders
throughout the world.
Just to the
north of Hakuba is Otari village, population less than
5000 people, and itself host to a number of large snow resorts.
Indeed, many people think of Otari resorts as part of ‘Hakuba’.
Just to the south is Omachi. |
