Japan also features several artificial ski resorts. Most large cities have
at least one artificial ski facility nearby. Most of these are indoor slopes
but there are outdoor ones as well. Some are specifically snowboard parks while
others are for both skiers and boarders. If you have never skied inside a dome
before than it will be a very unique and slightly bizarre - if not altogether
satisfying experience. Artificial ski resorts can be a good place to fine tune
your halfpipe skills or get a few turns in during the summer. Indoor skiing
will never be like the real thing, but if you don’t take it too seriously or
expect too much, you should have a good time.
Artificial ski and snowboard areas are located in Chiba (1), Tokyo (1),
Saitama (2), Ibaraki (1), Yamanashi (1), Nagano (1), Shizuoka (1), Gifu (1),
Kyoto (2), Kobe (1), Hyogo (1), Hiroshima (1), Ehime (1), and Fukuoka (2)
Prefectures. See the
Resorts
section for more information on these facilities.
