I really wanted to try out the Fischer Watea 94 during a recent day at Alta. Unfortunately, someone grabbed the only one available before I got there, so I skied the 84 instead.

It's a terrific all-mountain ski, comparable to the Volkl AC4 (my benchmark in recent seasons) but a bit more biased toward soft snow and a little damper. It floated well in knee-deep powder and initiated turns smoothly. Didn't slice through cut-up snow as easily as the AC4, and had less response on groomed runs, but was better in untracked pow.

Rating: 8/10

Final comments

An excellent ski for resort use though you might want to grab something a bit wider (Watea 94?) for deep days.
