Powdatopia is the premier ski event in the Outdoors Special Interest Group of the JET Program.  Every February for the past 4 years English teachers and our other members have been hitting the slopes in Hokkaido and Aomori for a weeklong ski-party extravaganza.  As usual, this year’s trip will be held at Niseko Hirafu and Mt. Hakkoda in February, and it looks to be the best year ever.  Visit our website and join Outdoorsig.  The Powdatopia website can be found here. Outdoor SIG

4th July 2002 Powdertopia, Recommended Over Viagra by 9 out of 10 Doctors
by Dane Sjoblom
Powdertopia was a dream. Just as much ass slappin' fun as last year.  I had to keep my fly open so I could hold my dork during descent! That's not a joke. For all you people who didn't save for this trip or thought you couldn't afford it, you suck. For all you people who thought you couldn't get the time off, you suck. Powdertopia now holds two spots on my “Top Ten Best Times In Japan” list. A very heartfelt thank you to the founding fathers, and to Dave for all his hard work organizing this year's extravaganza.

Saturday, 8th February 2003:
5 am, wakeup call at Geoff's apartment in Ikebukuro, train for 2 hours, flight for one, another train, subways, hiking to Merek's place in a blizzard, up ten flights of stairs, all wrapped in ten layers and carrying a bulky snowboard bag and leaden backpack.

So there I was...knee deep...or more like waist deep in it. IT? What? NO---Powder!!

A trip from Iwate Prefecture to Kamui Ski Links (near Fukugawa), then Sapporo, and back down to Aomori for a few days at Hakkoda has lead this young man to a reliance on the white powder of choice- deep snow!
